[mapserver-users] definition ( extent )

Hi list.

In MapServer Documentation we can read

extent [minx] [miny] [maxx] [maxy]: The spatial extent
of the base reference image. 

this definition is very short, and i don't understand
how it works.. somebody could explain me more...
